I don't feel like reading through 6 pages of comments but, I can attest that most retail stores will tell you to call the cops but not get involved. I've never worked fast food but have been told that from working in a drug store for several years.

At the same time, however, some common sense is needed. I'm pretty sure if I was in this situation, policy or not, I'd be stopping them. This isn't like one little slap and some yelling, this is a brutal assault. For that matter, I get the feeling that the person taking the video isn't an employee, just a hunch. If so, why the hell didn't they think to do anything but pull out their damn cell phone and video tape it? For that matter, they were laughing at one point which is just downright heartless.

One of my main reasons for getting the MB vs. keeping my iBook was Parallels.

I develop for several platforms, so this was 'made in heaven' if i worked.

Well, after a month of testing and developing I can say that Parallels has been an unqualified success.

Currently I'm running Ubuntu, Solaris 10 (Dtrace, zones and ZFS rules, but that is another debate), and Win2k. Apart from an issue getting the screen resolution right in Sun's Java Desktop, I have had no problems whatsoever.

Since I'm not doing any 3D work, graphics acceleration isn't an issue for me.

It's the best 70-odd dollars I've ever spent.

Oh yeah, to the guy with stability issues..... I have no idea what you've been doing to your machine, but I haven't yet had a kernel panic of any kind (nor a BSOD in Parallels), so I don't recognize the situation at all. And, believe me, when you rape a system the way I do, running a long compile in the background while at the same time converting a video (just to see the stress handling capabilities - I wouldn't do that normally, compiles take too long :)), you get a good feel for the stability of the system. This baby is rock solid.

For the record: MB CD 2GB 120GBHD

Yeah. I'll be calling Brea tomorrow to vent, but I doubt that will get me anywhere.

And FWIW, most of the AT&T stores here in Fullerton/Brea didn't get any iPads. Makes you wonder how many of each model Apple actually got. Nobody seemed to be touching those Verizon iPads with a 10 foot pole.

I think this is different. Our company is not buying any Intel-based macs until Adobe releases Universal CS, and I don't know why anyone would spend $$ on new hardwre now only to take a performance hit, vs. a performance increase and better hardware bang for the buck by waiting 6-9 months.

Because not everyone uses Adobe CS, and because you're always going to get better bang for your buck by waiting?

To be honest, I've had more application crashes and restarts on OSX than I have under XP/Windows in the past 3 years. So much for "crash resistant" - and yes, I've had 4 kernel panics since I got this iMac home; that's more than the number of BSODs I've had under XP in 4 years.

Which means -- as everyone is saying -- that there is something wrong with your computer. I have a MacBook, two Intel iMacs, and a Mac Pro in my house, and they do not crash despite heavy daily use. My poor Mac Pro is running three different operating systems right now using Parallels, with nary a complaint. If you are getting unexplained kernel panics on a clean install of Mac OS X, then you have a hardware problem.

Hardware problems can affect any OS -- I've seen Windows systems that get daily BSODs. It's not because "Windows sucks", it's because there was a sub-par memory chip or somesuch in the system. Likewise Mac OS X crashes, when nobody else is experiencing a problem, are not an indication of the stability of the OS but rather of your hardware.

4200rpm is dog-slow. Go for the 5400rpm drive and use the money you saved for a nice big FW800 external HDD.

Kinda pissed that I just bought 2 external FW400 drives 2 weeks ago. Hesitated on the FW800 but I didn't see myself buying the 17". Today I got the new C2D and it comes with FW800. Grrr....:(

Agree, slapping the wall with her hand at end was a dead Giveaway.

You people really have problems. I feel sorry for you. That you would sit here and say things like this is just sad. Just what exactly is wrong with you? What is it that makes you so callous? Is it boredom? Or is it just fun for you the be this way?

It seems that nobody ever likes anything successful.. Look at poor mcdonalds, coca cola,Ford and now apple and its ipod.... All the biggest comapanies always get in trouble. BMW and their idrive, ford and the firestone blowouts, apple and hearing loss... while dont people stop being jealous and peee off.

I think, if big companies or successful products are being "attacked" it's because a lot of people are using their products and at a certain point those companies have to have a much bigger responsibility towards the enduser.

Because as more people are using the iPod as more people are in danger using it the wrong way and suffer from hearing loss.

Of course a lot of people sue big companies just for the sake of money and in North America the whole thing got out of hand, but I believe, that big companies have to make sure that people don't get hurt because of their products.

-> Bigger influence of a product means way more responsibility for the company, because the chances, that the product hurts someone, raises.

poor McDonald's, poor Coca Cola, yeah, right! We don't want discuss this topic.

(sorry if my english is kinda bad, just got back to england)

Why don't you start reading things before making your incendiary comments?

Reading what ? Someone trying to say TB is an evolution of Fiber Channel when it does nothing of what Fiber Channel is actually used for ? Have you even ever used Fiber channel ?

You can 'like' a purchased track from within the music player app now, and post a comment about it. Surprised no one else mentioned this yet... Anyone else spotted any additional changes?

I picked up on this before, it was in 4.3.1 for sure

    Good timing :)

Since my MBP arrived, I've been toying with the idea of moving the Mac Mini downstairs and hooking it up to the TV. Already bought myself a copy of Remote Buddy and a Keyspan Remote control. A bluetooth Mighty Mouse would match up nicely.

I already have a Logitech bluetooth mouse, but it requires a charging station. I'd rather keep the number of cables, docks and misc. paraphernalia down to a minimum in the living room. A basic AA-driven mouse would be great.

I would like to see them pull off a change of actor for once, without changing the character. I think it's an insult to the audience's intelligence that networks think we can't accept someone else in the role. They always go for the knee-jerk reaction, which is to kill off the character. Give us some credit, and a chance for another actor to make the role his own. It's not like it's unheard of. How many James Bonds have there been??
I'm sorry, but this never works. At some point, in every show that did the that it becomes some kind of inside joke on and off camera. I'm reminded of the 200th episode of Stargate: SG-1, where upon a ridiculous parody of the show one of the characters says:

"Never underestimate your audience. They're generally sensitive, intelligent people who respond positively to quality entertainment."

This on a sci-fi show with enough technobabble to keep you busy arguing with other viewers about the authenticity of the in-show's reality.

For movies it's different because each one is a narrative of it's own. You can't can't compare Sean Connery with Pierce Brosnan as you can't compare Never Say Never with Tomorrow Never Dies because both movies are done in their individual way.

On a television series, you have a continuous narrative that can change its direction, but as soon as you change major plot points or dare switch the main actors with new ones, that's a plain insult to the audience who watched from the start.

It's possible but they better not do this (not release such a product). I WANT this.

I'm still not too sure how gestures would work to control such a device unless there was a camera.

Imagine you are in an airport trying to get your tablet to open up by swinging your arm up and down in front of your computer's camera.

Now that would be an invention...

I use "VMWare Server" It runs on both Windows and Linux. Here is how it works: First I bring up a console window. THen I "connect" to a physical machine. Either the one I'm using or some other one on the network. Then I can "Power On" a Virtual machine. On power on I see the BIOS counting up memory and then booting off the boot device and finally it loads an OS. What this means, it that you have a set on physical machines and a set of virtual machines and the virtual machines can run on any of the physical machines and can eve be moved around. And all the displays are sent back to you workstation where you can tab between them. Another neat feature is the abilty to "snapshot" a VM. You ckick on "snapshoot" before you do something you might regret say you want to install some spyware thing just to see what it does. OK now you've seen it so you click "restore" and the computer is put back into the state of when it was snapshoted.

VMWare pioneered this whole ideal and has by for the best products. And so of them are free. If you have a Windows or Linux system go get VMware Server right now.

"appleguy213? I think I'm a Muppet." "I know how you feel." said appleguy321 as he looked around the futuristicly white room they where in. Curiously enough, there was also an orange Muppet with a childlike grin on its face. Then with a pop noise, chrmjenkins changed back to a human. While appleguy123 stayed a Muppet.

Then a door made an noise, that just so happened to sound like a woman in mid orgasm, and opened. In walked a robot with a small head and holding a banana. "Come on, to the bridge with you two." said jav6454. chrmjenkins and appleguy321 followed him, through the moaning doors and up a stair case to the bridge.

nies and lbro where pushing three buttons over and over again in an attempt to look like they where doing something, so that the intruders thought they where important. In walked jav6454 and the intruders. "Welcome to the ship of tomorrow!" announced lbor with enthusiasm that rivaled a fangirl seeing Justine Beaver.

appleguy312 upon seeing nies, squealed with a hatred so intense that his Muppeteer nearly blacked out. nies, not happy about seeing the creeper from the market on his ship, turned to leave. appleguy123, still wanting to be with him, grabbed jav6454's banana, ate it, and trough the peel in front of the overly pompous nies. Who consequently tripped and fell, cracking his head upon the control panel and turned into a trans-dimensional mouse.
