By that same vein, what has Apple ever developed that's anything close to a OS ? And no, Mac OS X, a bunch of components bought/taken from the open source community doesn't count... it's just a Unix distribution with a GUI layer on top.

It's easy to discount anything going with that mentality. The fact is, Chrome OS is as much an undertaking as OS X was. It's more than just a "Web browser" since web browsers cannot be booted and don't provide graphical sub-systems, input management and process scheduling obviously.

(yes, I do realise Mac OS Classic existed).

And to answer your question directly : Android. ;)

fail. google didnt make android. and the fact that you used a winking smiley to illustrate your victoryfail makes it all the more sad. :-(

I'm still wondering about battery life.

And they list the wired as Windows compatible, but not the new bluetooth version. Any reason it wouldn't work on Windows?

Any reason anything works in windows?

Any thoughts on peripherals? I know new keyboards/mice/trackpads sometimes accompany an iMac refresh. Maybe we'll see the trackpad come standard now, in anticipation of Lion's new multitouch gestures. Any of you backlit-keyboard dreamers out there hopeful? (Personally I'd just like to see a wireless, non-backlit keyboard with black keys, to match the notebook keyboards.)

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_3_1 like Mac OS X; en-gb) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Mobile/8G4)

Looks ugly and much like a photo shopped iPod touch. Plus the bottom is to thin to support the 30pin as the iPod touch is just about big enough and losing half it's depth would be to narrow. Plus getting screen plus a5 plus screen into that form factor doesn't seem possible oh and don't forget a decent battery.

For that matter, I get the feeling that the person taking the video isn't an employee, just a hunch.

It was an employee. You don't need to have 'just a hunch' when most of the media reports confirm this. The employee was fired.

I can understand not reading the whole thread, but not reading anything and preferring to make up your own version of events is kind of lazy.

Not surprising the iPhone 3GS was #2.

This is the real data. How are the actual phones selling... That is why when people try to convolute Android vs iOS on phones only it is silly.

Apple is dominating the smartphone markets with their individual products. Opening up to Verizon has taken away one of Android's advantages in the US.

All 4 iPhones are in the Top 10 of smartphones sold since the iPhone came out. In fact they are probably all in the top 6 or 7.

The mighty mouse is a great mouse. The only thing I dislike about it is the way the scroll wheel sticks. My wife doesn't like the squeeze buttons on the side, but I think they work great. I guess it's all a matter of preference. If they fix the scrolling wheel problem on the new one's I would definitely buy one. I've found though that cleaning the scroll wheel with rubbing alchohol several times in a row will take care of the sticking problem.

BEWARE: I use to do this too, and my "press-the-scroll-ball-and-click-the-mouse" 3rd button ceased to work right after one of those cleaning sessions. I don't know if the two events were related, but I tend to believe they were  . I might have used too much alcohol that time, though... :o [*rubbing* alcohol, don't get me wrong :p ]

But at least the sidebar is improved in a useful way. I hate how the text on the current sidebar hangs to the side of the images, taking up valuable width.

So instead, the new sidebar pushes into the image, reducing it in size, and requiring you to expand the width ( ) of the window if you want to keep the image the same size. I don't really see the overall difference. I suppose it comes down to whether you prefer the images to get slightly smaller, or the tray to suddenly cover over other things.

If Lion does give you the ability to emulate iOS apps on your Mac....

    How do you control them?

    What about a Magic Trackpad?

To chose a 4G phone over an iPhone in 2011 is a poor choice and the result of marketing and nothing more. Unless you live in spot with great 4G service and never plan to leave the house, you won't see average speeds any faster than an AT&T iPhone. Not to mention your web browser won't render pages half as fast as Safari, so speed differences are utterly negated.

Plus the fact that few countries have 4G networks. Apple cares about selling worldwide and many markets aren't ready for that

Yay - I see a full-screen button! Since I give most of my programs their own Spaces, this will be very nice.

That mockup is hideous, but I imagine that the rumor is in line with what you could expect. A thinner iPhone with slightly upgraded internals , e.g. 64GB of storage, A5, 1080p/8MP rear camera, FaceTime HD front camera, larger (3.7-4") screen, and presumably the same or better battery life are almost expected at this point.

I could see the gestures and a tapered design. I think they're going to ditch the ice cream sandwich design for sure.

For anyone with multitasking gestures enabled, is it me or has the animation for when you use four fingers to swipe left or right to switch between apps changed?

When you activate the app switch, the page drops back and the different apps are separated, then zooms back out on release? i thought the last one was a continuous image with no separation?

Please ignore me if it was the same!

Even if Apple and Google both make money from ads and apps... Apple still gets $600 per phone.

Apple has the right idea :D

"Android" can have their marketshare... I don't think it bothers Apple in the least.

That's the point though - to compensate for the lack of profits from hardware sales, Google flood the market with their OS to make up their margins through ads and apps.

Apple are bothered and hence tried to make it more attractive for developers to use Apple over Android through Ad-Sense, thus reducing the attractiveness of Googles OS

In the end they'll probably make similar amounts of money but through slightly different routes

Given that a number of VmWare's products are essentially free, Parallels will indeed have some significant challenges ahead if the OS X version is likewise free.

I don't think this is a realistic hope. The equivalent Windows/Linux app is VMware Workstation, which is definitely not free.

VMware's free apps can certainly be used on a workstation; but they're targeting the server space and lack some of the niceties of Workstation (such as experimental hardware video acceleration). But I do use the free VMware Server on a Fedora box for generic Windows stuff like IE testing, and it fits that bill just fine.

I would think it likely that VMware's pricing will have to be somewhat competitive with Parallels - people aren't going to spend $180 on it unless it totally blows Parallels out of the water (which would be hard to do).

    WTF!
The top 3.1 Ghz 27" iMac has a cheaper i5-2400 CPU, than the low-end 27" and high-end 21.5", with both have i5-2500S processors!
    (The i5-2400 is 184$ (http://ark.intel.com/Product.aspx?id=52207) and the i5-2500S is 216$ (http://ark.intel.com/Product.aspx?id=52211))

+ the 2500S can do 3.7 Ghz in turbo, and the 2400 can only 3.4 Ghz in Turbo Mode!!!???:confused:

Here is my question with the market....

A year ago, when Apple was at 80 and the iPhone and all the new products had been announced, I figured everyone knew how great these products were going to be and had already inflated the price of the stock to a high 80. So, I decided not to buy.... well, as we know, the stock rose over 200. Everyone bought much later on.

So, does this translate to: In a market that I know a lot about and believe in, even though new product news is out, before profit/financial news it out, should I still buy?
(Yes, I am relatively new at this... flame on)
It just drives me nuts, that I knew things were going to do well, and thought everyone already knew and had bought.

I didn't say he should get more money. I said CBS will probably bring the show back because it make them so much money.

Reports are Cryer gets $1 million per. These figures include what they make on syndication too.

The that would bring the total between them to $80 million, which leaves everyone else with $20 million. That hardly seems OK or reasonable. There are a lot more people to pay and after that, what's left? I'd tell the guy to take a hike, especially with all the trouble he's caused.

I'm really liking how Apple are putting these dev previews and updates out (no physical disks and such).

I wonder what's different in this one? Release log anyone?
